MORETTI HOUSE

Typical middle-class residence of the 19th century. Natal place of the poet Marino Moretti. Interesting library. Today an important cultural workshop dedicated to the literature of the 20th century.

THE THEATRE

Built by the Architect Candido Panzani and financed by local voluntary funds, it has been opened in 1865 and damaged during the Second World War ; completely restored, it has been in function since 1992.

STATUE OF GARIBALDI

Erected in 1884. Cesenatico was the first Italian town to dedicate a monument to the national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi.

CHURCH SAN GIACOMO (St. James)

Begun in 1324 and rebuilt in the 16th century. The present shape is due to the complete renewal in 1763 by the Architect Pietro Borboni. In the church there are two works by Guido Cagnacci (1601-1663) and his school “Sant’Antonio” and “San Giuseppe”.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

Objects and findings of the Republican period (2nd-1st century b.C.) and the Roman Empire (1st-4th century) recovered in the surrounding aerea of Cesenatico.

THE “CONSERVE”

The cone shaped ice-boxes have been used between the 16th and the end of the 20th century mainly for fish preserving. There were numerous “conserve” along the Romagna coast. Cesenatico had about 20 of them, three have been reconstructed similar to the original as evidence of the culture and the way of life of the people of this fishing resort. Every morning on the Piazza delle Conserve flowers and vegetables market.

THE HARBOUR

Once only a landing place for small crafts. Than deepened and built in the early 14th century because the City of Cesena needed an outlet for its sea trade. In 1502 Cesare Borgia (il Valentino) conquered the town and called Leonardo Da Vinci in the hope of finding a solution to the problem of sand bars silting up the harbour entrance. An exact copy of Leonardo’s design can be seen in the Public Library of Cesenatico (the original is preserved in the French National Library in Paris). During the course of the centuries the village expanded around the harbour first as a fishing and coastal trade centre, then as a well known seaside resort.

THE PILLARS

Probably of Greek-Byzantine origin, were built during the era of Venetian rule in the 16th century.

THE MARITIME MUSEUM

This floating maritime collection is the only example of its kind in Italy. There are displayed ten exactly restored historic prototypes of the craft of the upper and middle Adriatic with their coloured sails. The “Land Section” of the museum houses numerous artefacts that narrate the events, trade and daily lives of the people of the Adriatic. At Christmastime there is a large characteristic crib on the boats.

PANTANI HALL

An exhibiting area of 300 square metre where it is possible to go over the sport career of the “pirate” through photos, mementos and audiovisual material that belonged to the famous champion of Cesenatico.
