Tradition
attributes the origin of the existing built-up-area to Maghinardo Pagani
da Susinana who is considered the greatest Romagn Medieval commander.
Today the neoclassic style Town Hall is dedicated to him.
In 1290, on the asperity where the Clock Tower stands, Maghinardo, who
opposed Francesco Manfredi Prince of Faenza, had a big tower made
of plaster blocks built. At the foot of this tower the Brisighella
continued to develop and it can be still seen today. In the Fortress of
the central peak, together with a car park, there is the Lamone, Marzeno
and Senio valleys Country Activity Museum which are interesting. With its
2300 finds relating to its country, crafts and rural civilisation,it
also includes some rooms reconstructed faithfully to the past as the
kitchen, cellar, bedrooms, workshops, which tell the visitors a story of
the detailed country life of the past century. There is a short way to go
from the Fortress to the clock tower, where today there is a particular
Time Exhibition. On the third hill, among the cypresses, there is the
Santuario del Monticino, a symbol of the reverence for the Madonna image
which is kept here. |

Continuing
on this route, in the town centre, there is the Collegiata di San Michele
Arcangelo completed in 1697. The visit becomes even more interesting by
taking the Via del Borgo
or "degli Asini" which preludes the Medieval stronghold. Entering
the Porta delle Dame, the prehistoric first house called
Boschi-Raggi must be visited,as it is bored in the stone, similar
to the "Sassi" of Matera.
One must walk down the whole "via degli Asini", because it is
very unique . During its approximate one thousand years of honoured life ,it
served as a buit-up area, a pedestrian street, a wall for defence and
civic meeting place. Just in the neighbourhood, a place that should not be
missed, is the civic Museum dedicated to Giuseppe Ugonia. He was a famous
litographer who depicted the town in his precious works of art, some of
which are exhibited in the most important world museums of today.
