Longiano
|
|
Longiano
is between Cesena and Rimini, where the plain separates the sea from the
hills, at an altitude of 179 meters above sea level.
Even if it is a community of
little less than 5000 inhabitants, it has remarkably developed both
economically and
in defending its life quality. Therefore, in 1992, it was awarded
the name of ideal village by the European Community and the magazine
Airone.
The territory of the community of Longiano extends for 23,64 square Km. In addition to the centre, there are other precious historical settlements like
the Balignano and Massa ones and the Felloniche and Villa Gualdo ancient
hot springs. In Longiano the beauty of the historical and artistic
patrimony goes together with the beauty of the landscape. In fact ,the
agriculture is followed respecting the environment
and the resources of fertile hills which has been known for centuries
for their oil and good quality wines as well as the rich production of
fruit. |

The
stately civic tower stands inside the charming castle courtyard and in
front of it there is the white shape of a Venetian fountain.
The
Piazza Malatestiana
opens out beyond the castle.
From here some alleys and little stairs arrive among the houses of
the ancient village.
A little way ahead, in Via Giannini, there is the Territory Museumwhich
hosts thousands of exhibits internally as well as in its courtyard in
which traditions, crafts and customs were handed down from a very far past
till nowadays. |

Walking
down to Borgo Fausto, which is just in the outskirts, we find the elegant
Oratorio Barocco di San Giuseppe built in the beginning of the XVIII
century - now the seat of the Sacred Art Museum - with its beautiful
stuccoes by Antonio Trentanove and the altar-pieces by A. Zanchi.
Going on, we arrive in front of the Collegiata di San Cristoforo, built in
the same place where an ancient parish church stood; inside it is enriched
with precious works by Centino, Andrea Lillo, Benedetto Coda and Gian
Gioseffo dal Sole.
The
stately Santuario del SS. Crocefisso
and the adjacent convent of the Frati Minori Conventuali overlook the main
square.
The restored Teatro Petrella
and
what remains of the ancient Convento Girolamino rise in the same square.
